Wellington Electricity is playing its part in reducing the cost of graffiti removal and replacing this visual pollution with something far more appealing.
Wellington City spends over $600,000 per year removing graffiti from public spaces. This is a senseless act and a needless cost to all of us who live in our community.
Since 2010, we have been engaging with local artists and schools to paint interesting and colourful murals on our substation buildings located in the worst hit areas for graffiti.
Removing the temptation that a blank canvas presents to those who engage in graffiti and replacing it with art has proven extremely successful, and the feedback we have received has been extremely positive.
