We're installing new electricity cables in Miramar
About the project
Wellington Electricity manages the local lines network that delivers power to Wellington, the Hutt Valley and Porirua.
From 23 January 2024 until late March, we'll be digging up the road in Miramar so that we can install new underground cables.
What's involved
Our crews will be working along the road shoulder and across intersections of the following roads between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday (weather permitting):
- Aparima Avenue
- Chelsea Street
- Devonshire Road
- Hobart Street
- Ira Street
- Southampton Road
- Wexford Road.
As well as installing the new cables, we're also going to be laying some spare ducts so that we can add more cabling in the future without having to do as much digging.
This is key to keeping our network resilient and making sure our supply of electricity can meet future demand.
How the work might affect you
We'll have pedestrian and traffic management in place to keep everyone safe. This includes on-street parking restrictions, with some parks temporarily unavailable in different places as our crews work along the cable route.
Property access may be disrupted during the day for up to two days as work passes by homes and businesses, but our crews will do the best they can to make sure people can get their vehicles in and out when they need to.
To get the work done as quickly as possible, we'll have two separate crews working on different sections of the route at the same time.
